Find the right edition
Confirm features and subscription conditions for your platform.
For platform-specific apps, open the store already installed on your device and match the publisher as well as the app name. The name of a service, its subscription and its playback app may be different.
Before downloading an APK
- Match the developer and package identifier to the current publisher listing.
- Check the supported operating system and minimum version.
- Read the release date, version, architecture and package format when the publisher provides them.
- Compare the SHA-256 checksum with the publisher’s value if one is provided.
- Review permissions, install on your own device, then test with an authorized source.

APK, XAPK and split packages
An APK is an Android installation package. Split APK sets may include a base package and device-specific parts; installing only one part can fail. Match the distribution format to the publisher’s installation instructions. Renaming a bundle to “.apk” does not convert it.
A checksum confirms that two files have identical bytes. It is not a substitute for checking who published the app or whether the app is safe.
